Once someone told me that it all lies on the ground. All you have to do is just take it! Let me show you that it makes sense even at such a special time of the year in Poland as Easter! SUGAR LAMB The obligatory traditional element of every Polish Easter basket. With the red flag with a cross is the symbol of Christ's victory. It is very easy to make a sugar lamb - all you need is sugar, water and a little bit of imagination! EASTER EGGS You can decorate them in all possible ways! This year I decided to color them in a traditional way by boiling the eggs in juice from onion skins! I used wax, leaves and embroidered lace to achieve different types of patterns on the eggs! Easter eggs symbolize the beginning, resurrection and rebirth. EASTER PALM On Palm Sunday, the final Sunday of Lent, the beginning of Holy Week, which commemorates the triumphant arrival of Christ in Jerusalem, days before he was crucified, Poles carry Easter Palms to bless them in the church. They are a symbol of victory and peace. One can buy them on the market or make it on one's own. Easter palms are usually very colorfully decorated with real or paper flowers. There are many contests in Poland, where parishoners compete in making the longest, most beautiful and unique Easter Palms. One of the most famous contests takes place in the city of Lipnica Murowana, Lesser Poland Province. WILLOW BRANCHES All green and growing plants are symbols of the resurrection. Above willow branches collected on the river bank abundant with willows. You can put them in a glass jar and decorate according to your imagination. I used a scrap of decorative paper. OAT Alike willow branches oat is also the symbol of resurrection. It appears on the Polish Easter tables equally often as cress. Both are very easy to grow. You can decorate the pot with colorful paper and ribbon. Red and pink - they used to teach us these colors do not match one another. Guess it is time to revise this statement and even add one more color green! ŻUREK Cooking can also be art! Especially if you cook according to the traditional Polish recipe. Żurek is one of the traditional Polish soups often appearing on Polish tables, but most often on Easter. It is a soup made of soured rye flour and meat - usually boiled pork sauasge or pieces of smoked sausage, bacon or ham. After the period of Lent, most Poles cannot await this meat feast! Pieces of boiled Easter egg come together with the soup as a must! MAZUREK Easter without sweets would mean nothing. One of the most traditional Polish cakes baked for Easter is mazurek. This very sweet, flat cake is typically made of one or two sheets of short pastry glued together with a layer of fruit marmolade covered with a sheet of butter sponge cake and decorated with nuts, raisins or other sweet things. HAPPY EASTER!
