During this one-day trip of course the rock formations made the biggest impression on me. The great rock walls growing up on the way inspired awe and respect. In some one could even notice humanoid representations, for example, Sisyphus supporting the rocks from falling with his back, as if protecting the surrounding valley from the avalanche, others reminded of obelisks, clubs, strong fists. The mystic character of these rock formations reminded me of Australia as depicted in "The Picnic at Hanging Rock." While wandering around the rock formations surrounding Pieskowa Skała, I could hear the air resonating with a strange echo that strengthened by the grim atmosphere of the March aura caused an uncomfortable sense as if I was moving on a ground that belonged to some other spiritual world, a ghost world. It did not surprise me then to see a small chapel hanging on one of the great rocky walls next to a wooden household located in the shadow of a giant rock. Perhaps its inhabitants also felt this strange power of the rock neighborhood and felt like resorting with their fears to God. The only true touch of color was the red fruit of viburnum hanging abundantly from twisted shrubs growing under cover of these powerful giants. It was not until the discovery of a fossilized shell in the rock wall that I sort of came back to reality and realized that once this whole rock landscape was probably a picturesque reef sea. It is not difficult to imagine the emerald waters full of colorful fish and lush coral covering the bottom of the basin. The castle at Pieskowa Skała, the best preserved of the "Eagles' Nests", initially did not make a great impression on me as for example ruins of Scottish castles or even the castle in Ojców etched in the rock made. Only upon closer examination of the walls surrounding it with the characteristic watchtowers, I noticed strange masks - some perverted smiled at me, others expressed fear with their facial expressions, and some even radiated with a specifically ominous anger. Others were formed in such a way that reminded of Aztec sculptures. Of course wooden architecture did not escape my attention - yellow doors with no handle in faded blue wall or beautifully embroidered curtains in windows as if frosted embedded in the colorful facades. Colors that was probably what most attracted my eye in this March escapade, and also these colorful accents have left a lasting imprint in my memory.
